Chapter 3

Zephan was naked under the covers. His trunks were still in the shower and his other clothes were in the guest room. As Otto walked in, he wished he’d had something to put on.

“They’ve left.” Otto turned off the light, and then there was some rustling, making Zephan believe Otto was changing out of his wet pajama pants.

Shortly after the bed dipped and Otto slipped in underneath the covers.

“Is the…eh…body gone?”

“Yeah, they took care of it.”

Zephan shivered. “Do you…kill people often?”

“Only if they step on my lawn.”

Zephan slapped his chest—bare. Before he could pull away, Otto caught his hand and pulled him closer. “How are you holding up?” He ran a hand down Zephan’s back, urging him to rest on him.

“I’m okay, I think.” He soaked up Otto’s heat. “I’m not used to being kidnapped or having the room I’m sleeping in broken into.”

“No?” Otto sounded amused.

“Why do you think they came back?”

“To destroy my lawn?”

Zephan groaned and rubbed his cheek against Otto’s pec. The hairs there tickled, but he loved the way Otto smelled. He relaxed more. “Apart from destroying your lawn, then? I’m not important enough to chase after.”

“No?” Otto’s hand stroked him from his neck down to the small of his back and up again. It made him shiver and snuggle, if possible, closer.

“No.”

“Maybe they’ve already contacted your family. It would look bad if they’d lost you when they came to get you back.”

Zephan hummed. “They would never pay.”

Otto didn’t reply for a long time. His hand slowly traced Zephan’s spine over and over. “Maybe they would.”

“No.” He shook his head. “They’d be glad to be rid of me.”

“I’m not sure. You came here because you were going to your sister. You still reached out to your family, and despite whatever conflict you’ve got going, I’m sure they don’t want you held captive.”

Zephan laughed and patted his chest. “Aww, you’re sweet. I was held captive in Silvermoor too. By my parents. They locked me up to make sure no one saw what a failure I was.”

Otto stiffened underneath him.

“They didn’t beat me or anything, and the food was good, but I wasn’t allowed to leave my floor.”

Otto’s hand stopped moving. “And you were going back?”

“Not to my parents. I haven’t spoken to them in fifteen years. But I figured a room in Bridget’s basement would be better than no home at all, even if there were bars over the window…if I’d be allowed a window.”

“For fuck’s sake.”

Tilting his head, Zephan tried to look at him, but it was too dark. For a second, there was no sound, then Otto brushed his lips over Zephan’s. The touch was surprising, but Zephan cupped his cheek to keep him in place. When Otto swiped his tongue over the seam of his mouth, Zephan moaned and opened for him.

It had been so long since he’d kissed anyone, and he lost himself in the sensation. It was slow and drugging. Otto took charge, and Zephan let him, enjoying having someone else set the pace.
